Ecnephias is a Melodic Death/Black Metal band formed in Potenza, Italy, in 1996 by vocalist and guitarist Mancan.
Considered by fans and critics alike as one of the best Italian singers in the genre, Mancan is praised for his exceptional and diverse vocal range, which includes clean baritone vocals and extreme growls.
Ecnephias' sound can be described as a personal blend of Classic Heavy Metal, Death, Black, Gothic and Folk elements, with a very personal ‘mediterranean’ and ‘theatrical’ touch. Their songs are sung for the most part in English, but a distinctive trait of the band is the frequent use of inserts in Latin and Italian, often orchestrated in a way reminiscent of medieval spiritual chants.
Ecnephias released three albums and performed live with bands such as Exodus, Opera IX and Frostmoon Eclipse, to name a few. They've also appeared in festivals such as Agglutination Festival (featuring, among others, U.D.O., Vader, Extrema and Forgotten Tomb) and Total Metal Festival (with Finntroll, Malevolent Creation and Vomitory).
Their latest release, 'Inferno', has been described as a substantial step forward in the band’s career, in multiple ways: the lyrics, as usual, are both in their native Italian and English languages and the music stands in a more mature and melodic direction without denaturalizing Ecnephias’ distinctive heavy sound, Mediterranean influences and refined arrangements. Here’s how the band leader, Mancan, commented the event: “Those who follow Ecnephias and have an open mind towards extreme music, will not be disappointed by this new release. And for those of you who like comparisons, I would say that ‘Inferno’ is the perfect mix of Rotting Christ’s more melodic approach, Paradise Lost and Dark Rock, with a very personal ‘Mediterranean’ and ‘theatrical’ touch. This record is for those who have always followed us and those who want to experience something new.”
